"Help For The Skinny Person" & "How To Get Motivated Again To Work Out"

Okay, my friend. I want to know what’s on your mind. Send me your questions, comments, rants and raves and I’ll publish as many as I can in upcoming blog posts. You can e-mail them to me at: support@bobwolfffitness.com

 Here’s a few I’ve received…

Q: “I’m a young guy in college and have been skinny all my life. Some friends who work out told me that I should get on “a cycle” and that would bulk me up. I’m frustrated and confused. What do you think I should do?”

A: Hey Tony…thanks for your question. One of the biggest reasons people in the gym aren't making progress is because they are not working out effectively. That doesn't mean using heavy weights all the time either. It's not how long you train; it's what you when you train, that makes all the difference.  Keep this in mind: Two things will significantly affect a change in your body: training for your body type (you sound like a prime ectomorph candidate to me) and how you structure your meals. I talk all about training and eating for your body type in the Body Type Training — Maximize Your Physique course here.

For now, you need to be focusing your workouts on power movements like squats, deadlifts, and presses with heavier weights, lower reps, longer rest times between sets and exercises and no more than two whole body workouts per week. Regarding food: Eat 6-8 small meals a day and up the protein and fat and reduce the carbs slightly for each meal. Do those things and you being skinny will be a thing of the past. Keep me posted on how you're doing.

Q: I need help! I’m a female in my 30s, have had a couple of kids, used to be in great shape before getting married and having children, and I can’t seem to find the motivation or the workout that will get me back on track again. Any suggestions?

A: Hi Tricia...thanks so much for your question. Of course, there are LOTS of things you can begin to do right now that will get your mindset and actions shifted from inaction and no results to action and results. Start by making very little changes in what you eat. Think back to how you ate before you got married and had kids and start eating more like that way again. Simple, right?

Next, add a little more movement to your life like parking your car further from the store, walking faster and taking longer strides when you walk. Carry heavier bags of groceries further. Think of what you’re doing right now and just try making it more of a workout with more effort. You’ll find that it’s the little actions when added together in the course of the day add up to big changes in how you look and feel really quickly.

It’s those little changes – that will give you continuous success feedback – that will relight that motivation fire inside of you again and keep you on the road to wanting to find more great ways to keep in shape. Let me know how you're doing.
