It has been called by many as “the fire that can lift one higher.” Lift one higher to greater achievement in all areas of one’s life.
In fact, it is the beginning of all great achievement. It is one of the invisible agents that will turn a person’s life from misery to happiness and fulfillment. Its power is tremendous. All of your dreams, goals and wishes would be nothing unless you use this awesome power that you possess.
My friend, that power is Desire.
The pages of history are filled with people who rose from backgrounds of little or nothing, the ash heaps of failure and adversity, to wealth, prominence, power and success because of desire. Right now, you contain that same power inside of you.
I want you to think about something with me for a moment. What is it that causes one person to get up early, greet each day with excitement and anticipation, work out, and be “fired” up about living? And what causes another person to lie in bed or mope around the house or office and do nothing but go through life barely existing from day to day?
It is desire.
You’ve got to get fired up about something that you really want to do with your life! A lot of times we will think about something that would really move us deep down inside if we did it. But you know what happens? We just can’t accept the fact that our dreams can and do turn into reality if only we would have the desire – and take the actions needed -- to see them through.
There are so many of us out there who want to have a great body and look and feel better. It has been something that we’ve wished for years. It has frustrated and probably depressed us for too long. But you know what? Wishing that something will happen will not make it happen.
Desiring something to happen, like the body you’ve always wanted and being in great shape, then planning definite ways to achieve that (or any) goal, will make it happen. Desire has a power of moving something from “It might happen” to “It will happen.” That power will change your life.
It has been said that one person with desire is equal to 99 people who just have interest. Think about that. Most everyone around us is interested in a lot of things. With all that interest going on, you’d probably think that everyone was pretty happy achieving their dreams and goals, wouldn’t you?
After all, there are a lot of things that we’re interested in doing, but just how many things are there that we desire to do? Things that we really get “fired” up about? There’s a big difference there. That difference will transform your life from mediocrity to greatness.
Let’s look at a few of the ways you can use the power of desire to turn your fitness dreams (and any other dream and goal you may have) into reality:
Determine exactly the kind of body that you really want
Bigger arms, smaller waist, firmer thighs, flatter or more defined stomach and abs? Think about the way you want your body to look.
Determine what it will take to have that body
How many days a week will you work out? What kind of equipment will you use? Free weights, bikes, stairstepper, elliptical trainer, machines, aerobics? What kind of workout will you do? Be sure that your workout matches ideally to the goals that you have. What kind of diet should you follow for your goals? Don’t leave anything to chance. Think about everything you’ll do that will get you there.
Establish a definite date when you feel you will have the body you’ve wanted
Be realistic. If you’re a beginner, then one year of training is not likely going to be enough time to turn you into a world-class athlete. So, set short-term goals at first to gauge how your body is responding to the program that you have it on. From there, it should be much easier to judge the time it will take you to reach your big goal.
Begin at once to carry out your plans
You can do all the planning and preparation in the world, but unless you begin to make it work, all you will have are hopes and wishes and hopes and wishes are really just excuses for not doing. So get started!
Think about your dreams and goals every day
See yourself already there. Not the way you actually are right now, but see yourself already having the kind of body you’ve always wanted. Imagine the wonderful feeling of seeing yourself in the mirror and how happy you are. Visualize how good you feel being in shape and transforming your dreams into reality.
Keep this in mind as you begin to harness the power of desire in your life… The intensity of your desire will determine how soon it will take you to reach your goals.
There seems to be some kind of law that says, “If you will increase the intensity, you will increase the result.”
Just don’t give up if the results don’t come fast enough. We live in a world of “I’ve got to have everything five minutes ago and if I can’t get it now, then I’m off to something else.” That’s a loser’s attitude and the sure formula for NOT making your big dreams come true. You are different, so think and act that way.
While others may quit too soon before they experience success, it is the power of desire that will carry you through the good times and the bad, give you the patience where there used to be impatience, take you over the mountains of success and out of the valleys of disappointment and heartache.
Use the enormous power of desire to achieve things in your life that others only wish for. You can do it! You’ve got the “Desire to be on Fire.”
